Default Yanmar Head Repair

Yesterday here at Q saw a small tear down of the 1.8 four cylinder Yanmar. A blown head gasket had allowed coolant into one cylinder resulting in some head damage. We are presently on the hunt for a new or used head. We have located a used 2.0 head and would like to ask any knowledgeable member(s) if this head would work on a 1.8???? Here's some pics of the event so far

Perhaps the pictures are deceiving, but I can't imagine the head could look that bad without similiar significant damage to at least the upper cylinder wall. The head looks like it was rusting for a few years?

I don't know the answer to your question but I liked the pics - thanks.

I downloaded a Yanmar service manual and would gladly share but it's 69 MB so I can't post it. I found it Googling around. It lists some specs that show the different displacements are achieved using different bores. I would think a head from a bigger bore might not seal properly on a smaller engine.

There must be a Yanmar distributor you could ask. Those engines a very popular and have a good reputation. I read they are one of the few to be underrated. For example I have a 3 cylinder 1.6L tractor rated at 33 HP. The 4 cylinder 1.8L Yanmar is only rated at 20 HP - in other words it's overbuilt - like BlueBirds.
