Default Yanmar Generator noisy and vibrates

Question for all PT owners, just sold my 84FC and picked up this 90WB PT.

My FC generator was very quiet and smooth (Perkins/Kohler), this Yanmar/Kohler shakes the whole front of the coach and is very noisy inside.

Had a Yanmar in a boat which was very smooth, any thoughts, from you experienced PT people? Motor Mounts? Muffler seal?

Appreciate any suggestions!

Hi Dennis,

You may need to start a thread in the generator section,
It sounds like an issue, what happens under load??, check the voltages?? motor mounts??

Our Yanmar is also noisy and vibrates the coach front. Newage in place of the Kohler.

Dennis:

I had this same thing happen on an SOB that I had previously owned, and it was also Yanmar/Kohler. It turned out to be one of the motor mounts that had a hard to see crack that was causing this problem.

I also agree with the previous poster that your unit might not be hitting on all cyclinders. Let us know what you find out as in my experience most Yanmar's are quiet.

Maybe other owners who also have a Yanmar/Kohler can comment on their units.

Curt,

I have always thought mine was the only 1987 that seemed be louder than I expected and seems to vibrate the front of the coach such that in cooler months i use two external 2000w Honda generators for a more quite experience when dry camping.

What do you mean by "Newage in place of Kohler"? Do you think this is a Yanmar engine or Kohler generator problem?

Thanks as always for the input.

When our Kohler generator stopped working the Stamford Newage unit replaced it. I think it's the Yanmar that has issues. Could be the motor mounts. I've never taken the time to check.

Anybody have any idea why Blue Bird Wanderlodge switched from the Perkins-Kohler to the Yanmar-Kohler back in 86? Perkins is still in business right. Was the Yanmar more economical to run-less of an oil leaker?? Apologies for hi-jack

If I have my generator all the way in against the stop, the vibration is much more evident than if I bump it out just a 1/4".
