This may be the right time for me to share my first and only greeting with John.
While at my first WOG rally last October I had the spot that KC had in the past. I learned of this a couple days into my visit there. Randy and John both welcomed me and assured me that It would be hard to start a shrine for everyone's passing. John was adamant on making the right decision to open up the spot of KC.

My deepest regards goes to all of his family and friends during this difficult time.

There will be tributes to John for years to come. Most of Us have Flagman stories and tell them often and will continue telling the stories while sitting around visiting with each other. Last year it was KC who wasnt in his spot. Every time I passed his spot I thought of him. No need for a chair. If you knew or knew of John you will think of him often.

No one's getting any younger are they Rick? I'd sure rather go like John did then KC. I didn't know John nearly as well as I did KC but you are right stories to tell.

Darn it. Very sorry to log on and read this horrible news.

I did have the opportunity to meet John and his dog Buddy at my first trip to Quartzsite in 2010. I remember looking out the windshield early in the morning to see John walking Buddy. I quickly put on my shoes and ran out to meet him. I did not know anyone there, but I had been on the forum for sometime by then so I knew who he was. We introduced ourselves and talked a few minutes as Buddy completed his business. Ten minutes later we were seated in the Finn's Inn talking like we had known each other for years. That was a great memory I will always have. We would communicate every now and then when I needed relays or some such thing.

A couple of things that always impressed me about John. One was his knowledge about best routes to take and avoid while traveling. Second was his devotion and loyalty to Boys Town.

We will miss you John. Your sense of humor, laugh, and eagerness to help will not be forgotten.

Final exits are tough and with his persistent health problems this is not the way any of us expected John to leave us. I didn’t know John well at all but I know enough about him that this would have been his choice for his Final Exit.

I regret that I will never make his aqaintance however as a result of the forum I felt a sense of knowing him. As I learned of his health issues , transplant and such , I was amazed at how he did not appear to let his health limit his desire and determination to do things. So many have good health but have chains in their mind that limit them. Shake off those chains.

Unique , special breed of person that has many physical limitations but is determined to continue to participate in life to fullest. As Shane says , time is precious and a resource that can’t be recovered so live live to the fullest.
I have a sense John did that. I think many here observed and admired that. I know I did.

I continue to enjoy the experiences others are writing about.

JOhn would be at my place for a week (or 6) and when he would get ready to go he would load the jeep one day, dump and fill and get everything put away, and he would be so tired he would drive 1 mile to walmart and stay the night, leaving sometime the next day from walmart.
That day he would drive 140 miles to a walmart in Cheifland fl.
and so on.
a few hours at a time, until he got to his destination.
Not many people would do that.
He was tough, but he knew if he stopped he would die.
Just a few days before he passed he had a guy working on his cadillac, doing some work, keeping it ready for a sunday drive.
