The Heckman's made it home no problems. I was the BIG RAT AT RATS. My goal is to some day attend a rally and have no issues. My next window of opportunity is the "Q" in January. I am going to do my level best to sort out all possible gremlins prior to and I figure if I can get there I might just be able to accomplish my goal.

I owe a real debt of gratitude to Randy, Woody, Shane, Dick, and Bill Pape for lookin after me. Others helped as well with advice, supervision and positive attitudes.

For those not in attendance I had turbo boost problems running from Maxton to RATS. Seems like the problem was insufficient fuel flow due to a air leak at the racor. Pretty easy to see fuel leaking out but air getting in is a little more challenging. Shane cleaned the racor and Randy and Woody installed a by-pass around a suspected leaking connection allowing the bus pick up the right amount of boost for the run home. Still think the bus is running a little "off" in power but better. I'll work at cleaning up the fuel lines and such and see what I can find. Anyone had a similar problem? Bus just doesn't seem to have the power it should. We did the obvious with some improvement. What was happening was the racor was getting air into it. After running the bus for about 30 minutes the turbo would only pull about 10 psi. If I stopped, opened the racor canister and filled with diesel it would run fine for a while. Did this repeatedly until we finally seemed to solve the problem by running a plastic hose (temporary) to by-pass the one copper connection. Still seems to me like the bus is not getting as much fuel as it would like. Thoughts, idea's? The only other issue is my transmission retarder light isn't coming on and the retarder doesn't appear to be working. No chance there is a connection or that the retarder is dragging? That might be a stupid question but it's about the only other thing on the bus which isn't up to snuff.

Retarder dragging would eventually (soon?) have transmission temps up to outrageouis levels. Therefore, unlikely.

That's good advice Woody, I'll check around find a DD shop, or ask Shane if he knows of a good engine shop. Shane in his line of work gets to just about every place in Pa, NY and NJ so he'll know who to take her to.

I had a great time, learned a lot. Laughed a lot and just really enjoyed the experience. I really understand what the term "good ole boys" means now. Hope to be considered one myself, a person couldn't do better in my estimation.

Take care of those fellows and girls you teach. We laughed about some of that too but it's about as serious as it gets and I honor and respect what you and others do for us.

And I am still thinkin It's going to be a challenge to get one up on you but that's another goal. I think my chances for the bus are much better. But you never know I might get lucky (or have some help) I'll need it, you're quick. The best of all or it was listening to Ethel giggling. That was worth the price of fuel alone. Be safe.

Good to know the Heckmans are home safe and had a trouble free return trip.

I would replace all the Racor O rings, seals. And the copper fittings that Randy suggested and the copper fuel line to the first connection behind the batteries, ( I seem to remember that the flair fitting was on that line). As Woody suggested, there still could be an air leak in the line to the tank. I believe it is copper its entire length. Possibly a leak at the tank connection.

The Racor has three square O rings # 11007, same as the one supplied with a new filter,
T handle Red O-Ring # 11350,
Bowl Drain Valve #11780 this valve can leak, since it is used occasionally. This is why I carried the spare.
Bowl Drain O-Ring # 11340
Check ball gasket #11028

Since your Bird ran trouble free on your return. I think it just needs driven more and faster. Bill's opinion

I seemed to have misplaced my spare silver floating ball, Is it in your plastic parts case?????

Bill, I'll look to see, I don't think it's there but I'll check this evening and let you know. Can you give me parts numbers on the pieces you that you gave me so that I can replace them as well. I appreciate your help. I am going to work at doing exactly what you have suggested. There is a DD allison shop not to far from my location and I might have them just check her over too.
