Default San Diego MTS 4500 Express Coach

Maybe someone can help me with this. Here's a few pics of a
Blue Bird 4500 Express Commuter Coach. The front shows
a Blue Bird logo. Was this coach made by Blue Bird or CCW?
Does Blue Bird still own the rights to the 4500 Express
Commuter? It is indeed a handsome coach.

David

Blue Bird school bus side started making CITY buses in about 1977.
I think they still do CITY buses. CCW was producing over the road coaches prior to closing.
Looking at last pis if you notice bay door under drivers compartment it looks just like the door used on 2001--2004 model Wanderlodges I picked up one of these doors at auction. Most LX and LXI's have chrome/stainless on lower part.

Hi Ed,

They're definitely pantograph doors, but the only similarity with my '02 LXi door is the handle itself. What confuses me is the front clip. It looks like Macy's design for the Premier XL. If Blue Bird did it I'd expect an M450 look. Plus, I know the time frame of the photos is 2007. If Macy did it, then it should have the new CCW logo on it. I have a feeling that BB still owns the rights to the 4500 Express Commuter Coach, and if that's true, it's great news for the M450 owners out there.

I don't know if this answers your question, but I found a May 2008 article from Bus Trader that discusses the Express:

"What remained was the Wanderlodge
line and the larger commercial seated bus
line known as the Express model. These two
product lines had traditionally been tied
together because they were built in the same
factory and shared some commonality in
chassis construction. These were sold to
Coachworks Holdings, Inc., a D/T Carson
Enterprises, Inc. company."

I don't know if this answers anything but here's some of what sold at the Wanderlodge Factory Auction:

(1) Express 4500 Bus Complete
(4) Express 4500 Bus Incomplete
(2) Wanderlodge Motor Coaches Incomplete

Also the Intellectual Property said it included the Drawings & 3D Models for Wanderlodge and Express Bus.

But on the other hand, schematics for the "Blue Bird Express Touring Coach (M4RE)" are still posted on the Blue Bird Corporate website, and the MTS coaches carry the Blue Bird Logo:

Ed, I take it back, the bay doors are very similar to my LXi doors except the handle is positioned higher. Here's a better picture (click on the pic to expand it):

They don't list them as one of their current products for sale.

No, but if BB sold these to San Diego MTS, they may still be supporting them, which means some vital M450 parts may still be available thru BB. I know, a lot of speculation...

David

I also have a front clip do not know what it fits , center generator
slide covers, and several M380 rear side louvered covers both sides.
Would you post a side angle and front on shot of your coach?
Thanks
