Smile What are these parts on a 78 BB?

I opened the front left head light panel and under the floor mounted up front are two power relays (like ford starter relays) one to radiator and one on left side ? going over to the left is a relay that has two air lines to it ? I would like to know what they are. I am building the head light mod and was looking for a place to mount it. I am thinking of hanging it off the bracket for the wiper motor. Any ideas or help would be great

Mark, I can't help you with that but do you have a sales brochure for your Blue Bird Inn? I have one and I can make you a copy if you like, I also need to send it to Vintage Birds for their site. It's a cool vehicle I wish it had caught on, they only produced about 12 units. It was sent out to the 12 major Blue Bird Dealers at the time to be a pilot program for a unit to compete with the Wennebago, it never caught on. What a shame. Do you have picures of your unit on this site? Send me a PM of your address.

Front left meaning driver's side (left from the seat) or passenger?

The one near the radiator is center then left to the drivers side is one more and on the drivers side, far left is the one with air hose.

I believe those are your driving light and headlight relays. The air valve you see below there is a dump valve for the air system as I recall. IMHO I would try to mount the new headlight relays to the body rather than the door. Somewhere around the circuit breaker array. I'm sure however that you'll hear varied opinions on this.

Those big relays by the way do operate just like a Ford starter relay, however resist the temptation to substitute a Ford type unit for one of them. The relays installed by Blue Bird are rated for continuous duty and if you try to use an off the shelf auto parts Ford type it will melt down in short order. I used one once on the motor generator set on one of these as a *temporary* fix until I could get a hold of the correct type. Didn't take long to figure out that was a mistake. I do carry one still for an emergency fix, however understand the limits. The big ones can be sourced from an industrial supplier like Grainger should you ever need one.

Look on the Cole Hersee website for a guide for all their relays. Will tell what kind of amperage the relay will handle and if it is intermittent or continuous duty, 12 or 24 volt. Rick in Ohio
