The muffler on my new project is in bad shape. Where are they available? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I eliminated the muffler on my '83 FC and it did a world of good performance wise. I also like the sound, but perhaps all of the locals in small hilly towns don't share my enthusiasm.

the stock muffler is very restrictive,if i replaced it i would use a straight through type muffler and move the exit back towards the back bumper.

Thats if I replaced it,most likely i would just replace it with a straight pipe, the engine will love you for it.

Gardner:
I just have straight pipe as well, okay with a couple of bends , I did not think that it was that loud, gosh when you hear some of these motorcycles or hotrods, now they are loud.

Is there any performance or backpressure issue on a 2 stroke without a muffler. Thanks for all of the info!

Kirk I doubt there is a back pressure issue. My muffler is a simple straight through with sound deadening material packed around the core. Some on here have removed mufflers and say it isn't bad sounding either

the back pressure of the stock muffler hurts the 2 stroke engines, loose the muffler,or put a straight thru type on,and move the tail pipe back.
The stock muffler is bad.
Just take a look at it,the exhaust goes in and back, then hits a wall and has to turn 180 degrees to go back forward to the exit, bouncing all that exhaust off a flat wall is not good.

I don't know about you guys but I just love the sound of a 2 stroke Detroit. Loosing the muffler works very well and just seems to add more throat-e-ness to the exhaust tone.
