Default Powertech Generator

Was running the generator this weekend with one AC running. Ran for two hours with no issues when the AC suddenly went off. Noticed then that the generator gauges were not showing any voltage output. Generator starts and runs great, just suddenly no voltage output. Any idea where to look or anyone have a recommendation for someone in the Washington, DC area that are good generator guys. Thanks in advance for feedback.

If your motor kept running such that it was not a motor issue then the odds are very good it’s the regulator. You can check this by measuring the voltage somewhere probably around the fan should be a good place to get at it when it first comes on. Nine times out of 10 the voltage will be higher than it should be.
Check this.
Jack this. If the motor shut off then work on motor issues, like low on water or oil.

Is the squirrel cage fan motor running? If not, you likely have bad bearings. I have replaced my motor twice. Those bearings take a beating😪.

Just for information for those who do not have M 380's. The Powertec in the 380 does not have a electric motor driven fan. The radiator fan is belt driven from the diesel motor. A tripped breaker or voltage regulator is most likely the issue.

All check the fuse and the housing holding the fuse on the generator, there are two of them if I remember correctly. I had to replace the housing that held the fuse on mine.

Have you check the voltage at the fan if so what is it?
It should be in the 230 Volt range. If it’s higher than that you really do need to consider the regulator as your possible problem.

Default Powertech

It is the transfer switch. Have an appointment with Powertech dealer to get replaced. Thank you all for helpful suggestions.

If its not the trips on the generator its self, Id look next at the breaker under the inverter bypass switch which is in the bay next to the entry door
