Default AC question

I noticed my front two AC units take a bit of time to let the compressor kick in, about 45 seconds. My rear unit kicks in right away. Do I have a problem? Probably should not complain, since the units are cooling nicely. But I thought I would ask. Mallie?

These are built in time delays, usually related to the compressors kick starter having to heat up. I would not worry about the one that starts immediately at this time as long as it is running well.

I agree with Barry. The delay is normal in many RV ACs, and and allows the fan to start before the compressor so less surg on start. The time delay is probably bad in the one that start immediatly. If it works ok other with I would not worry about it.

Kurt, have you considered coming up my way and having Leon set you up? Last year he was not working on A/Cs because his helper quit on him and his primary source of income is refrigerators, so he couldn't do both. I guess he is back into A/Cs again, with some new help. Anyway, a lot of Birders have had all new A/Cs and thermostats installed by him for less than half the price you just quoted. These are scratch and dent units, but who is going up on the roof to look for the dent? They work great and he does superb work. Might be worth a trip up. http://www.fixyourfridge.com/

Thanks for the info, I was worried when the units were not functioning the same. But they are working well at cooling.

The problem is the old Dometic A/C use a 4 button thermostat. All new Dometics use a five button. The cost might be so high because they built in the cost of new circuit board plus a five button thermostat in the cost. The solution could be to install the old circuit board into your new a/c. Leon of National RV Refrigeration can do this. If your willing to make the trip to northern Indiana you can give Leon a call at (*(260) 768-7059‬). He does not answer the phone in the daytime. Leave him a though message and he’ll get back to you in the evening. Note that Shippsewana is a nice place to visit. Some like the flea market that goes on midweek in this Amish community.

I’ll mention that I’ve been able to keep my a/c’s alive by replacing the blower motors. Give me a call if you want to discuss this further or want some recommendations for Shipshewana.

Good luck and happy trails,
Eric

I've also got an old Dometic Penguin that has a locked compressor and the original 4-button control board in it. I'll be at WOG in Pine Mountain. Takers??
