I also purchased used rigid foam. Purchased 2 tractor trailer full for about $1K.
Most was 3", some 1.5". I did a deep energy retrofit on the exterior of my house...made huge impact on comfort as well as energy consumption. Would work very easily in the pole barn scenario. You can be somewhat sloppy in your install and fill voids with the diy spray foam kit. Do a search for polyiso. It has the highest Rvalue/in of any rigid available. Just another option to consider.
