Default Replacement for Broken Plastic Drawer Keepers/Slide Catch/Drawer Holder

Our 1986 PT has Grant Drawer Slides. They have plastic clips (See Pictures) which hold the drawer on the slides. They BREAK! (Especially when you take a corner with an unlatched drawer which extends, quickly, and snaps the keeper, allowing the drawer to empty all its contents on the floor)((NO Names Mentioned)) (((Especially since the wife is typing this!!!!)))

So, we went looking for a replacement solution, preferably a permanent solution. We did not find anything ready made, so I contacted a friend who had some mill time available, and had him machine some aluminum replacement pieces. (See Picture)

He prototyped a pair for us to try. I installed the pair on a drawer and they work. There is very little give in the aluminum, so the drawer installed, but it is a tight fit. The plastic keepers are riveted on, and the metal ones install with a stainless steel flat head metal screw.

So, that is the story. Since I have found a solution, I thought others of you may be interested. I talked to my friend and if we place a total order of 500 or more pairs at one time, we can get the price down to $10.00 a pair. Less than 500 pair and the price is $12.00 per pair.

So, I thought I would see how many of you are interested in pre-purchasing these pieces. I would like to get an order together and placed before the end of June. The lead time for getting these beautiful little babies into your drawers, is dependent on how many we order at a time and when the order is placed. I will have more information as I get closer to putting in the final order.

If you want to purchase these, send an e-mail to me at flhs46_68_98@yahoo.com with quantity and contact info. I will get back to you on final pricing.

But,a fast cheap way to fix it is to add a screw into one of the holes shown in your picture.

Yes a screw through the side would accomplish the same result but I like the idea of being able to remove a drawer without having to go get a screwdriver.

I agree, but not having a milling machine in the coach may change your mind one day!
The screw is a get you home deal.

Well I plan on replacing ALL of my plastic clips with these so I never have to deal with a broken one again.

As for the milling machine I do have a small Atlas lathe with a milling attachment that I may one day have mounted in my trailer so I can play with it whenever I want!

I have uploaded a video showing me replacing the (broken) plastic drawer keepers with the aluminum prototypes I had made. I am getting close to placing the order with the machinist, but there is still time to let me know if you want some of these. I will place the order next Saturday, so please let me know before then, to make sure I get enough ordered. If you want them later, there will be an additional set up fee. Contact me here on the forum or at flhs46_68_98@yahoo.com

The outside slide for the grill has four unused ones that are mounted upside down. I plan to drill out the rivets and use them to repair a couple of my inside drawers.

Cool Extras

Stopped by Kevin's the other day and played with the latches, this is a first class fix for the broken latches; very well made and nice looking. I think I will get some spares and take them to Q this year for all you procrastinators.
