Default Rear Rooftop Intermittent.

My rear rooftop A/C seems to be intermittent. It will run for a while then shuts down. I cleaned the filter but I'm hesitant to pull the cover unless I have to. The covers are pretty brittle and I don't want to disturb them if I don't need to. Any ideas?

Be careful taking the cover off. No other way to clean it properly.

Jack,
Rick is right in that the only way to properly clean the unit is to remove the cover so you can ensure the outside condenser coil is not blocked with leaves or such. You may also need to get some coil cleaner and spray them down, let soak a few minutes and then gently hose off to remove dirt so the unit can work better with heat exchange. If the outside coils are very dirty and/or blocked, the head pressure or high side of the compressor will cause it to shut down as a self protection.
Condenser cleaning foam can be acquired from Homey/Lowes.

When I take it off I'll replace the screws with stainless ones. I'm slowly switching every bolt and screw with stainless. I'm tired of dealing with rusty hardware. Thanks for the tips.
