Default 8v92 Water Pump Confirmation

Hi to all!

Looks like the next update is a water pump replacement on my 86 PT 40. I have read a few of the posts but want to confirm that for a 8v92 I need a
"Walking" replacement pump vs a "Running". I am quite sure it is not a "Standing" unit based on the legs. I cannot see the casting/part number on mine since it is still installed. The big question is if anyone has an actual part number.

Thanks

Kirk

Look at the 2 lower larger pipes and if they are not both pointing in the same direction but are angled it is a walking water pump which is what my 8V92 has.
If they are both pointing in the same direction it would be a standing pump.

I did a writeup on replacing mine when it went bad in October 2014 on the way to WOG at Pine Mountain.

Be careful when removing bolts, particularly the pivit bolt as mine was frozen solid and snapped off requiring it be drilled out.

My notes on my '86 6V shows Reliabilt #R2356602, or Midland #RW 1189X. Would 8V and 6Vs be the same? Gardner would have to confirm whether mine was walking or not.

I can't tell from the pics I have whether mine is a walking, running or standing unit, but as long as it is not a pissing unit I'm happy

Default 8v92 water pump

Left our place and drove 100 miles to a campground south and east of us to visit friends and our Son who lives in the area, I discovered a coolant leak after parking. It’s the water pump and it’s leaking from the weep-hole. Instead of going back home and parking it at my favorite Truck repair shop I decided to stay put and enjoy the weekend and drive home after topping it off with water. I’m home now and I’m going to change the water pump myself. It’s a walking water pump. Does anyone know a good source for an American made remanufactured pump. I have looked online and have seen a few for around 300 buck but can’t determined if they are reliable or not. Just wondering if someone knows a solid, reliable place I could buy one from. I want an American made remanufactured one and not a new Chinese one.

Check here and make sure you do not damage the old one as it will need to be returned for a core credit.

https://www.dieselpartsdirect.com/r23506602

Be careful removing the 2 large main bolts as they can an do weld themselves to the pump body and if you break them off, you will need to drill them out carefully with a set of long cobalt bits.

The gear lash is .001-.006 and will require a dial gauge to set before installing the pumps cover plate.

Thanks Barry, I appreciate all the info, very helpful. There used to be places to get these that didn't require a core deposit, might not be the case anymore unless you buy a cheap new one. Probably ordering one from Diesel parts direct. Going to wait until I have one in hand before taking the old one out.
