Default Tire Procurement

Hey guys (and gals),
After we left WOG this fall we went up to Murphy NC for a work camping gig, that job is ending around the 1st of April. I knew that I would need tires soon even before we made it to GA. Anyway it's now been an addition 4 months, and I am seeing quite a bit of sidewall cracking, enough to concern me about driving at all. But I'm not an expert on tires. The tires I have now are Hankook AH11's from 2011.

Turns out Murphy NC is sort of a desert when it comes to large commercial tires. I've reached out to some "local" (less than 50 or so miles away) tire shops and have heard back from 2 so far. One says they don't service the area and the other quoted me $8241 for 8 Michelin X Line Energy Z ($6240) and the service call (including valve stems, disposal, taxes, 6 hours@$125, balancing etc ~$2000). There is not a place here in town that does large tires, I'd probably have to travel 50+ Miles to find a shop. Chattanooga TN, being the closest "Metro" type area.

Thoughts and advise are always welcome.

Thanks

Don't wait until the summer heat hits your location. They are quoting you ridiculous prices on the labor, tec. I would contact someone further away and drive easy! There are places online that will ship to one of their recommended dealers. Maybe they have someone close to you.

might be a wild shot but call Davenport Transportation in Blairsville and see who they use or recommend. He runs a fleet of semi's hauling mail.

I can get tires, but the local shop that installed them got destroyed in the hurricane, they are still rebuilding.
I had to go to Dothan for tire work last week.

Matt,

I bought some Michelin tires last year through the FMCA tire program and had them installed at a local Michelin truck tire dealer. Their charge for mounting, valve stem and disposal was $62.33 per tire.

FMCA has tire programs for Michelin, Hankook and Continental tires. If you are not a member, tell me your size and I'll look up the current pricing.

You need to get to a city that is near an Interstate. Even a T/A can sell you 12R's.
