Default Battery Replacement

https://www.batteriesplus.com/produc.../sli31dtmagmdc

It turns out 3 year old (2016 June) dated AGM batteries are already dead (testing way too low) and need to be replaced if there is any boon-docking in our future! after looking at the "battery type" setup on Magnum Remote Unit. It turns out the PO didn't switch the battery type from flooded to AGM1. I suspect that is he reason for rapid decline of three years old batteries... who knows!

After researching, reading and considering what is available locally I decided on the above Duracell batteries. They are a fit for what its there now and if I manage to replace them myself is should cost me right around $2,300 for all 8.

few questions:

1-some of the wires have corrosion on them and I have been told I can clean them with baking soda and they will work fine. Should I or just buy new ones for the bad ones or should I replace all wires to news ones?

2-I have never replaced "battery banks" , any particulars I should know about? Dos and don'ts?

3- I have read the Magnum setup instruction and watched videos, anything else you can add?

Hopefully, it will all work out at the end!

Sams Club, $180 each. Vacaville, CA
Corrosion on the wires could or could not have traveled behind the cover into the wire where it will continue to cause issues, so it depends on how badly corroded they are.

Take complete photos of all wiring before disconnecting any so you put the system back the same way.

May also want to check your front generator battery also.

I suggest replacing any corroded cables. I've had good experience with this company:
https://www.batterycablesusa.com

I assume at the price you listed the new batteries are also agms? I recently stopped using Duracell brand and went with Interstate. The Duracell were not lasting as long as I hoped and it was my second set.

Premiums brands are rolls or lifeline or Trojan. I know with certainty lifeline sells AGM.

If you can get similar from lifeline I would encourage.

I know a WOGGER sells lifelines at a discount. You can find through searching.

Good luck,

Doug

They didn't go dead because of the setting in the inverter/charger. They probably ran them down to far a few too many times. Or left them dead for a long time.

Perhaps you are correct! PO was even less mechanically inclined than I am!

Thank you, that is sound advice!

Thank you, we are full timing and in Olympia WA, the nearest Sam’s is in Great Falls MT. near 700 miles away. But, may be its worth the wait since we are planning to go though MT anyway.

We've been running 8 of the Sams 6 volt AGM batteries for years. No problems at all. We have 400 watts of solar panels so they do stay charged all the time. And we dry camp extensively.

Just be aware that not all Sams clubs carry the AMGs. Call ahead or check the individual Sams club web site.

They are item # 401742

I believe East Penn makes the Duracells. Nothing wrong with them. I don't think any of the lead acids are made overseas because they cost more to ship than they are worth. I don't believe there is any real measurable difference between like-sized Crown, Trojan, or any other USA GC2 in build quality. Just find a good deal and buy 'em, none of them are cheap.
