Default Kohler 12.5 Generator Rotor

Well, today was going along really smoothly.

I have been having trouble with my genset, starting and stopping, sometimes a couple of minutes, sometimes up to 20 minutes.
I have checked the fuel system, the air system and most of the electrical system.
Whenever there is a load on the system and I want to switch it from shore to genset (sometimes I forget to turn things off), the genset dies almost immediataetly. One of the last things which I had not done was to check the regulator.
So today, I opened up the back end and all looked okay, but very dirty. I pulled the regulator out and to my horror, there were a bunch of pieces behind it. Upon closer inspection, what I believe are the balancing weights on the end of the rotor pole.
Question: is that what it is?
Question: Can this be repaired?

Sending you a personal email Randy.
I will figure out how to post pics on here when I get back from dinner.
Closer inspection, I think it is the top of one of the poles, that has broke.

Well, at least I know now why the generator has not worked, less than 4 hours since I bought it

The broken piece is a hard plastic piece to help make a form for the stator winding. The ends have holes drilled in them for weights.
I found one broken and one loose, the broken one had moved outward and hit the stator causing damage as seen in the pictures.
I believe the rotor could be fixed and balanced but certainly the stator would have to be rewound.
In addition, taking off the end bell, the generator was waiting to die anyhow as the bearings were toast. The bearing had spun in its race.

John, Randy mentioned that you added a Marathon Generator to your engine, was this an easy replacement?
