Default We lost a copilot

Sad news from the Heckmans . Our little black dog Emma went into heart failure Monday evening and had to be euthanized . She was a good girl. Ethel's buddy.

Ethel and I are fine over this it's part of owning pets and we've been through this a number of times over the years.

I am grateful for what dogs bring into our lives and grateful that Emma didn't suffer a long or difficult decline as some do.

Foxee will have some additional obligations to take on but he'll manage I am certain.

At our age we don't plan on replacing the dogs fearing we could not provide ten or more years of care and commitment to them.

I know that all of you feel for us and the common love of us for each other and for our four legged friends This elevates us all . Dogs set good examples for all of us. If you smell right (notice I didn't say good) you are accepted as a friend . It's that simple.

The Heckmans appreciate our friends and Emma did too. It's all good and a part of life .

Seemed like it honors Emma to let our/her friends know.

John my heart goes out to you...loosing your buddy is a difficult thing. Go easy, John. Us dog lovers face this issue a number of times in our lives and it is always painful. I always think of the Rainbow Bridge story at these times...

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. Her bright eyes are intent. Her eager body quivers. Suddenly she begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, her legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
