Now I have to convert ours to a single bolt, you cost me money with your good ideas, Mike. BTW, the air cleaner kicks butt.

Default Belts, pulleys

I just took my maiden voyage to Maxton,NC two weeks ago. One of the things that was not working well on my 1980 FC 35 was the power steering belt adjustment. I eliminated the not working AC compressor and mounted the power steering reservoir where that unit used to be. From there it is a straight shot down to the pump. This eliminated the growling and now I can turn the wheel lock to lock standing still with very little protest from the pump. I made an aluminum version of John Finn's wood pieces and threaded rod to tighten the belt. I found a Lucas Oil steering product and added that to the power steering fluid. I don't believe in snake oil solutions to cure mechanical problems but this combination of mods has worked for me. Total cost was about $15 for new hose from the reservoir and one bottle of Lucas Steering product.

Rick,i believe in additives in the PS fluid.
Reason is,many years ago I worked for the cadillac dealer,we had a recall on PS pumps that growled.
The fix was, pour half a can of STP in the pump.
Worked everytime.

I add STP to everyting I own,i used to buy some stuff like STP from Lubrication Engineers in texas,55 gals at a time.
My boss at the time loved it,it may not have helped anything, but it sure as **** didnt hurt anything.
I ran that shop for 10 years.
