Default viewing pix problems

Ever since I upgraded POS windows 8 to windows 8.1 last month. I've had problems viewing pixs on the forum. I seems to be this forum only. Before I could click on the picture and it would open in another box and allow me to scroll through them. Now I have to double click and the picture opens in a full page then I can go back and open and scan the pictures normally. Anyone else having problems with windows 8.1 and explorer 11?

I had the same problem that you described and did not find a solution within Windows 8.1 and Explorer 11.

I switched browsers to Firefox with Windows 8.1, and found this combination worked satisfactorily.

My windows 8 with Internet Explorer (version 10.0.9xxxxx) is working fine. I may have upgraded some other software but don't remember. But I do despise W8 like everyone else. I used to have a spell check program, but haven't found where to get it for W8 yet.

Nevermind, I found the spell checker.

I bought a new laptop for my aging cousin. It of course has Windows 8 and I was not a happy camper. The last time she used a computer she accessed it via a TERMINAL. I don't think Windows had even been thought of at the time so I knew I was going to have a very hard time mentoring her.

I found a neat FREE program that lets you make Windows 8 think it is something else - like Windows 7, which is what I set up her computer to look like.

It doesn't take away anything from Windows 8 so if you want to look at that desktop you can, with a click of a button. Or just leave it as a "Windows 7" machine.

I don't have a dog in this hunt - just a happy user.

It must have something to do with either the 8.1 upgrade or explorer 11 upgrade. I don't know when I upgraded (upgrade right??!!) explorer. I guess it was done with the 8.1 upgrade, but that's when it started for me.

Default maybe it's the combination

It must have to do with the combination of W8, and IE11. I am running 11 with Win7, and having NO problems opening up any of the pics.

The forums here, and a lot of places, use something called "lightbox" to produce the popup overlays.

According to Microsoft, the problem is that Lightbox does "browser sniffing" to determine what browser is used, so that images can be displayed properly, and the tag that Lightbox is looking for does not occur in IE11. That could be considered a Microsoft problem, but it is not one they appear to care about.

Likely later versions of Lightbox will take care of that, but for very good reasons the forum software here is unlikely to be upgraded, so changing browsers is the best method of dealing with it.

I have hated Internet Explorer since its inception, mainly because it was forced on me (if you remember, it couldn't be removed). The perceived "attitude" of Microsoft that everything should align itself to their way of doing things doesn't do anything to diminish my feelings. They do come up with improvements, but each time, they seem to incorporate just as many "why did they do that" things. Similar to the saying about a woman - you can't live with them, but you can't live without them.
