Didn't know what to call it. In my '76, it's located in the inverter compartment on the drivers side...you know, the place where you hook up an air hose to air up your tires, etc.
Now, the question. Tried to air up the tires to their prescribed settings, and found that I could only get 100 psi out of the tanks maximum. Is this normal? Seems awfully low. The compressor kept kicking in/out while I was filling (had the engine running). The main reason I want to add more air is that when I drove it back from west central Tx, on the rear outer duals it seems to be rubbing against the wheel wells. The outer edge of tread is worn much more than the rest of the tire. I KNOW the coach is not overweight and wanted to air the tires to max pressure to see if it helped the sitting sway when you walk down the aisle plus help the wear when driving the bus. I think I might have to go to a truck stop to find a compressor that will air them up to the 110 rear max and 120 front max. Any ideas? Suggestions????? Thanks...Dennie

The Air Compressor on your BB should build to about 120 pounds. What is your air pressure gage showing? The only way to get 120 out of the compressor and into your tires would be catch the compressor on the build cycle while holding the air chuck on the valve stem. Easy way? Go to a Truck Stop.

Dennie - Congratulations on having an inverter and built-in air compressor on your 76. I'd sure like to have these in my 75, but I can't find 'em, and there isn't a 75 manual I've been able to find. I have looked in the 77 manual, but there's no mention of a compressor or inverter there. I do have air brakes, so maybe I've got a compressor I can use for tires? What am I missing ???

Mine is located in the 2nd compartment on the left side (1st one is batteries, 2nd one has inverter. The fitting for the hose is on the left side and you are looking in the compartment...at least that's where mine is. Hope this helps. I had to get a different chuck for the hose than the one that came with it...it is not the "normal" size.

Just offered based on my limited knowledge as an owner...
If you have air brakes...you should be able to trace the air supply line from the air compressor to the first storage tank...there should be an aux. tank and related air lines that are downstream and isolated from your braking system. I would "think" you could tap into this aux side of the air system with a fitting and run a air line to a accessable spot and mount a air tap fitting...where you could attach a hose for filling tires, etc. This is in fact a nice function to have available. I am afraid that I do not know enough about a older coach to give more specific advice. The key aspect I would think is to use only approprate fittings and line and make sure you are not in any way compromising your air brake system. Good luck!

An inverter is nice because you can run 120 current when not hooked up to shore power. The 77 manual I've read talks of a converter/battery charger in the second compartment so that when on shore power the 120 ac from the building or campground gets converted to 12 volt to charge up your battery. Is what you've got a converter or an inverter or both? 1977 manual is at http://www.wanderlodge.org/TechFiles...BBOwnerMan.pdf (I haven't found a 76 manual).

Well, not you've got me wondering what in the heck I have (is kinda hard to look in the bay from over here in Iraq.." Don't have the manual with me either...it is in the black box (blue box broke, had to buy a black one).
As far as the air fitting, there is the possibility the former owner(s) added it on. That would make sense, I guess. The hole is drilled perfectly to accept the chuck, so just figured it was factory.

My 1980 has the accessory air chuck in the second roadside compartment as you describe, so I believe that is factory. A bus with air brakes should have an engine mounted compressor for the brakes. If it was originally hydraulic brakes and converted to air I wouldn't expect it to have the accessory air connection.
