Default Routing Cape Coral Florida to Florida, NewYork

All

I am not familiar with RVing on East Coast.

Leaving Cape Coral FL May 9th must arrive FLORIDA NEW YORK May 20th for wedding. This is not a sightseeing leg. Want to avoid Washington, DC, Philadelphia, New York City traffic.

Am thinking:

I75 to Ocala, US301 to I95 to I26 / I77 thru Charlotte to I81 (or I95 / I64 thru Richmond to I81) to Scranton, PA thence I84 east to Mechanicstown, NY then State 17 South to State 94 to Florida, New York.

Will be fully loaded as this 1st leg of 6 month trip towing Suzuki SUV. After wedding plan sightseeing Maine south to Pine Mountain, GA.

All comments and alternate suggestions 1st leg appreciated.

Dean

We love 81 and use something close to that route to go to the NE (I live in Sarasota)
We go 26 straight up to 81. We love the Asheville area and make that a stop over spot.
If you go this way plan on some 7% grades.

I do not travel on 95 north past 26 (really past Richmond) but we always turn left at 26

If you take 77 you just need to time Charlotte so you don't get there at rush hour.

My 2 cents

I have run all of those roads many times in an 18 wheeler. None of the routes you propose should be a problem for your coach, and there is a lot of pretty scenery. However, there are also significant grades along that route, once you get to I-77 and I-81. You may or may not care for the ups and downs, depending on your driving abilities and preferences.

If you would prefer to stay out of the hills as long as possible, you could stay on I-95 until you get north of Fredericksburg, VA. Then pick up US 17 to I-64 to I-81 . It's a good road and a shortcut to I-81.

If you like driving on decent roads but not necessarily interstates, you can take a more scenic route. I-95 to US 58 east in Emporia, VA. Run that to I-64 west AROUND Norfolk (do NOT let your GPS take you though the downtown tunnel! You can make it but traffic's a nightmare). Pickup US 13 north through the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. Follow that all the way up to the Delaware Memorial Bridge into NJ. NJ turnpike to I-287 north to I-87 north to NY 6 west.

A nice side trip to the above is take US-113 in Maryland to Lewes DE. Then take the Cape May-Lewes Ferry to NJ to the Garden State Parkway to I-287.

Have fun!

I went to Cape Coral for training. I think it's pretty straightforward to just take I-75 north.

I would just take FL-40 east in Ocala, though. My husband says dad and uncle (semi drivers) used to use 326 to avoid the city proper. Maybe check that out. Google says there is a Love's truck stop if you do that.

FL-40 will take you to Barberville on US-17 near where I live. Continuing east then runs you straight to I-95 in Ormond Beach. If you need it the next exit north is where US-1 crosses and there is another Love's truck stop.

I-95 all the way out of Florida

Only if they took 81 north. If they went 95 they are probably still sitting in traffic.

Huh weird. I guess I should double check dates, oops. I use the links to find new posts in bold and it listed this one as a current thread with the others. Sorry.

Old threads can be just as useful as new threads! Its fun to see some older content pop back up.

Yep,i agree.
It reminds me of an old member that may be retired from the road and/or some funny stuff someone did.
Like now,in a few years we will be talking about that crazy frog girl that kept bringing up old posts!
