For anyone considering a 110 fridge installation in a FC, you might enjoy this.

The bit about the friend with the 5th wheel parking it on a 'not-so-level' pad while the propane fridge ran was eye-opening. ![]()

I bought an FC that had a non working fridge,i was working on the fridge and thought i would look up the chase behind it ,i used a mirror and looked up,there was a huge squirrel nest built in the chase,if i had lit that fridge up it would have burned the caoch and possibly my shop.
check the chase every year or sooner.

Since I'm working through the list of things I want to fix, might as well add that to the list. How's that done? Pull the cap on the roof? Pull something out from below, or do I just open the grill on the side of the bus and look up? Thanks.

You should be able to look up through the outside access door.

If we find a photo of the remains of our buddies 5th wheel we will post it (pretty much a complete loss, all because of the propane burner in the fridge was crooked enough to ignite, burn & accelerate the cabinetry).
For an enroute, unplanned repair I’ve gotta say it went pretty well. We boondocked 3 days last week & were super impressed with how quickly it cooled to temp & how little power it used. I can’t imagine ever going back to a smaller, more expensive, complicated & potentially hazardous absorption-style RV 3-way refrigerator. In the near future, I plan to replace all 3 propane furnaces with diesel Espar-style & the range with an induction unit, then remove the propane tank altogether & turn that space into more storage (as we learn videography, will post those projects as well).

JC Refrigeration does retrofit kits for existing refrigerators to replace the 120/12/gas cooling units with 120/12V cooling units that get rid of the gas system completely, and seem to run more efficiently. I was intrigued with this retrofit, and would probably dig deeper into this should our existing fridge gives us fits.
They're not cheap, but look like a nice way to keep the box you have but replace all the failed running bits. It would be nice to get the fire out of the inside of the bus.

It does. But there's also the 'will it fit through my door' question that has to be answered. With a residential fridge, you also have to figure out a solution to keep the door(s) latched when in motion. Nothing that can't be figured out, though, but an option. The retrofits look to cost about as much as a new RV fridge, but probably less than a similar-sized residential unit. And I guess in a FC, one will probably never have enough battery capacity w/o a significant upgrade to the battery pack.
