Default Louvre Repair

Some of the louvres on my radiator grill have become loose and not only are they out of warranty but they are also made from unobtainium. Randy suggested using eurothane stuff to glue them in place but some of my “place” had evaporated over time see photo 3. I did some backyard engineering with the tools and material at my disposal. Almost anyone on this forum could have done a better job and I could’ve as well, maybe, if I had a welder and knew how to weld aluminum. But what I’ve done is good enough for who it’s for.
I used aluminum flat stock with 1”x1/8” and 1”x1/4”. The 1/8” bar is for the long supports and the 1/4” is the little pieces that support the louvres. The little supports are 1 1/2” apart, mostly. A welder sure would’ve made this part better in a lot of ways but pop rivets was my only practical option. The adhesive I globbed on was Locktite Marine Fasr Cure Adhesive Sealant. It’s some kind of relative of 5200 and it cleans up with WD40.
The patches for my 93 WB are a little different than most and I felt they were untrustworthy, especially with the known tendency they have of wandering off at the most in opportune time. They are 1/4 turn paddle latches operated by an Allen wrench. The closest thing I found was from MSC Industrial Supply part number 3737706. It was pricy at $27.13 and $15 or so tax and shipping. I got one to be sure it would work and will add another one.

Not a spot on me Randy. Once I discovered WD40 killed 5200 I’m not afraid of it anymore. Try it. You won’t believe it.

Barry, that appears to be an exact replacement latch. Where did you buy it, Southco only sells to retailers I guess?

Found on amazon for $12. Thanks Barry.

Amazon, it did take some searching to find the right manufacturer, size and part numbers.
