I have just completed a major overhaul of www.bbirdmaps.com

All of the prior functionality has been retained, but I am no longer building the maps on my own server. Instead I've moved the maps to Google maps. What this adds:

Your choice of views (Roadmap, Satellite, Hybrid, Terrain)
Scrollable maps so you can view "outside the window"
Zoom to any level, not just the 7 presets
Popup notes when you click a user icon
Street view images if you want to use them

Lots of code changes, so let me know if you run into any bugs!

That's how it is at the moment, with Rick being one of them. Of course there is a relatively small percentage of Wanderlodge owners who put themselves on the map. On the other hand it is a much larger percentage among the regulars here.

I have been using your app starting from Quartzite Rally last year. It took me a bit to get the Lat Lon formats down. But after that It has helped me meet up with people, BB owners and others.

I think it is a great tool, if you have a smart phone there is an app for it and I use it all the time. It lets me know who is in my area and I think it would be great for locating fellow birders for assistance. You can also tag emails to it to notify your friends of your location. I use it to notify our daughter while we're on the road, she knows exactly where we are at almost all the time. It is really worth checking out BBirdmaps.com

Thanks, guys. I guess it has been awhile since we've pushed it, and people start forgetting to use it.

On the road: Lets people know where you are, both by looking at the map and through the sending of e-mails when you move. It helps, though, if you try to remember every time you move!

At home: Again lets people know where you are, and you can indicate if you have parking available or are available to help with problems. If you are on the map you can also set it to let you know when another member updates their map location and are in your vicinity.

Like this forum, the maps are completely free and open for your use. The biggest problem people have is figuring out where they are in terms of latitude and longitude to enter their location. The Android App will do that for you, but if you are just using the online form or the Windows app you need to figure out your location from another GPS, or by using an online address-to-latlong converter, or Google Earth, or probably other things I don't even know about.
