Default Denver to San Marcos and back

I finally got everything together last week for our trip to Austin for the formula 1 race and we left Wednesday bright and early. We headed down I 25 into New Mexico and then headed SW out of Raton on hwy 87. In Clayton we saw a bunch of cars at a restaurant with wild horses painted on the side of the building and stopped for lunch, it was Mexican food day and it was quite tasty.

We then headed down through Amarillo and stopped for the night in Canyon at a park right off the highway. Thursday we headed south though Lubbock then took 64 to Interstate 20 to Abilene then south on 64 and 87 through Coleman when the ride got really bad. I knew we had an issue. We pulled over and I thought I heard an air leak in the back. So I started the genny and turned on the air compresser. I finally found the leak in the tag air bag. We decided to run into San Marcos with the tag turned off.

We went south through Brady into Fredricksburg. We will have to go back to Fredricksburg someday and take in the tourist shops, looks like a cool town, Mary liked it. We took 281 south and were going to try to go into San Marcos on hwy 32 but after we turned we noticed a 34,000 pound bridge limit so we turned around and went south to New Braunfels and then north on 35 into San Marcos. We stayed at Pecan park next to the river, nice place.

I thought I would try to find someone to change the air bag while we were at the races, but never found the time. I bought all new bags but haven't changed them yet, so I had a spare on board and we tried to change it Monday morning after the race, but I couldn't get the old one out. We made the decision to run without the tag again straight up 35 to I 70 home. I did flat spot the heck out of one tire, but the other looks fine.

We had a blast at the race and I am very happy with the way our coach performed otherwise! I am looking forward to our next adventure, we just have to learn to drive slower and stop more. We ran hard on the way home and got 4.44 mpg, towing our 06 jeep rubicon. I used the ready brake system and it seemed to work good.

I couldn't have gotten there without this sites help and advice. Thank You!

Hi Kyle,
From what I have read, the F1 race was great and the track is impressive.

The track is awesome in layout and elevation. The BMW clubs have scheduled a drivers education and club race in March. I may have to go back and drive it! It looks like a hoot.

I've done the I-35/I-70 route ... But it's shorter to pick up US 287 via Amarillo and Limon CO when traveling from south-central Texas to Denver. Generally good roads, not a lot of traffic, even though much is only two lanes.

We went through Dumas on the way down.
Nice to know they have a free city park with 50 amp. I will remember that for the next time we head down.
Thanks
