Default "Lucas and Sarah Leave the Nest" or... "What Did We Just DO?!?"

Hello WOG!

Well, we done went and did it.

We've committed, as of yesterday morning, to buying a beautiful beast -- a 1989 sp36. Some of you are familiar with the coach. We'll be the fifth owners, far as I can tell, and... she's definitely one-of-a-kind.

(More on the Bird soon...)

For now, I just wanted to introduce myself. Hi, I'm Lucas.
(I'm hoping my wife, Sarah, will introduce herself soon as well.)

About Me (us)
You can read a few tid-bits in my profile, but... here's a bit more detail for anyone interested:
  1. A/S/L
    • at almost 37, I may be a younger-than-average forum member (but... age is just a number )
    • married for almost 5 years (anniversary 16 days away, but... who's counting )
    • currently living back in my hometown (Baton Rouge, LA) but will be establishing residency in Florida
  2. Background
    • Born in Colombia, grew up in Louisiana
    • Spent the last 12 years in Colorado, where I met my wife and bought our first home (recently sold)
    • Professionally, I've worn a lot of hats: hardware, food service, cab driver, trucking, customer service, tech support, computer/web programming, and now doing professional voiceover work (as a "voice actor" or "voice talent")
  3. Our Mission
    • Sarah and I are planning to visit all (currently 417) National Parks / Monuments / Historic Sites in the US National Parks System (NPS). This will take years!!
    • We'll be living and working full-time in our coach, with our three cats, as we explore this great nation
    • We're building our location-independent business(es) and maintaining/renovating a vintage bird, while on the road.

Personal note, regarding this forum...
For many of my years in Colorado, I was an active member of an enthusiast community similar to this one. (maintained/modified a 2000 Mitsubishi)
So... I met a lot of great friends on a similar vBulletin forum, and organized our local chapter into a tight-knit community for a while. I look forward to meeting all of you (virtually), and... as many as possible in person!

Taking Flight
With all that said, we have a week to plan our (~1600 mile) maiden voyage... in a decades-old Wanderlodge.
I've got lots to learn, and have already learned a TON from this forum prior to joining. Expect lots more posts from me, as I LOVE figuring out the "nuts & bolts" of how things work!

Ready to roll up the sleeves & get my hands dirty,
~Lucas

Thanks, all - for the warm welcome!

In recent news, we hit a snag with our purchase yesterday. In short, we won't be buying the bus we thought... but we're still 100% sold on the Wanderlodge line!

Particularly, we like the pushers but wouldn't be opposed to a nice FC. Preference is for something not too large, to explore the NPS, so we've focused on 36' (or smaller).
That said, there's a really nice-looking 40' widebody about an hour from our place. So we may consider going big - since it's "turnkey" - and maybe downsizing later.

Since we're looking to hit the road by early August, a fixer-upper isn't out of the question... yet.
Budget, including fixes/reno/upgrades (like solar)? ~80k

So, if anyone has recommendations in the 35k - 50k range... that's probably our target. And we like the "vintage bus" look of the 80's & early 90's coaches.

The search continues...
