Default 2010 ford escape toad

I am looking at a 2010 ford escape to be my toad with all four on the ground. The owner's manual says it can be recreational towed. Looking for someone who might be doing it already with this year and model. It is a automatic transmission XLT.

That dosent sound good. I have read of many negative postings about the edge tranny when being flat towed.

A friend of mine has a Mercury Mountaineer. It's on its third transmission due to damage from towing. He's followed the book procedure for running it through gears and all. Even cut the distance and time in half on the last one. No luck

Thank you Rick. I am removing the 2010 escape from my wish list. Wondering if Ford has fixed this problem for later models?

We were looking at the 14/15/16 edge. They may now have the issue under control.

I hope it's not a Ford thing. Chris and Dan help me put a baseplate on my daughter's 2013 Ford Focus. The Owner's manual says it can be flat towed. I followed all the instructions and flat towed it to "Birds at Beach". When I arrived at Myrtle Beach, the dashboard light said "transmission service". When I got it back to Tampa, the dealer had to replace the clutch and the computer. It's been running fine ever since, but I'm afraid to tow it again. If I don't, I guess I'm out of a nice blue Ox baseplate.
