Default Upgrade to RVS camera and monitor

Who else has done this upgrade? This is in my 88 FC35 and mounting the camera on the original bracket inside. Is the camera close enough to the glass for a good field of view? Or does it need to get closer? I have covered the IR’s already.

No idea about FC camera placement. On M380, rear camera is pretty close to the rear glass and mounted up high. Field of view is good. Can see front of toad while still keeping horizon in the picture. Been running RVS for several years & happy with their performance. I didn’t cover the LEDs, disconnected them instead. But be aware this may affect your RVS warranty. You’ll find some of my comments on one thread that begins here: https://www.wanderlodgeownersgroup.c...t=26921&page=3

I covered the LEDs and it did not work. I still get glare only at night. I don't really drive at night so it has not been an issue.
I am working a Support issue with RVS right now. I have an issue with my DVR.

Their Tech Support can be rated somewhere between Dismal and Non-existent.

Thomas: How did you run the cable from the monitor to the camera?

Suggest read of posts by Dennis and myself as mentioned above. On the next page of that thread, Dennis tells how he had good luck with the wireless version. I’d agree with his assessment that even without camera LED’s, lighting in the rear of the coach is more than sufficient. Plus, I switched to LED license plate lights (see this thread) and those provide even better lighting of the area behind the coach at night. With the camera LED’s unplugged, there is of course zero reflection from the glass window covering the housing. It’s disappointing to read that RVS’s tech support has gone downhill.

Van. I have read your threads on the installation. I am 2500 Mile's from my Bird and have already purchased the rv's system. Unfortunately it has a multi plexer in the cabling. My pt38 is still the original system and I don't think I can adapt the original cables. I did look to see if I could get into the upper chase. It is doable until I get to the bathroom. Haven't found any way to get behind the medicine cabinet and a false cabinet. I would have to remove the upper pantry slide. Does not look like fun. In retrospect I should have gone wireless. Every model of Bird is different. But thanks for your tips.

When I bought my '88 the camera system had been replaced once already. The installer had to extend the bracket to get the camera closer to the plexi. I tried this method in Tom's pictures, but I did not get a clear picture. Mostly because the plexi gets foggy and may need to be polished or replaced. I drilled a push-in camera into the plexi instead.

Default Running the cable

I had initially tried to splice and use the original cable... Fail. So since I had cut the connector off of the RVS cable, it didn't impede the fishing expedition. I started at the front and ran it down the drivers side behind the overhead panel. Got to the bath and removed the light cover and the plate below it and above the toilet. Fished the rod behind the shower to the overhead above the dinette. Pulled cable through to the bath.

That's where it got tricky getting into the closet and to the bedroom.

There is an upholstered box at the top inside the closet (PVC sink vent?), I removed a few screws and was able to pry it out enough to fish a line from the bath side into that box. Unfortunately about 8 inches of the cable is exposed as i ran it back to the wall and pushed it down behind the rear of the closet panel. Still couldn't get the valance off of the bedroom (drivers side of course) so I used a 1/4" drill and just ran it through the wall to behind that valance and pulled the cable through and laid it along the light bulb to the rear.
