Default 30 PSI and No More ---Ideas?

Has anyone run into this before? Tried to go to a MSU basketball game with a whole crew and the Bird would not air up past 30 psi. I found the compressor govenor and it is bleeding off all air over 30 psi. I can't seem to find a replacement (Part # T-293975). This thing is in a REALLY REALLY bad spot. I am not sure if i could replace it if i had one.

Any advice??

Thanks

Try taking the handle of a hammer and give it a solid thump. It may just be stuck.

Kirk, Someone will jump in here I'm sure. If I'm not wrong I believe I read sometime back that you could open up the airline somewhere before the govenor and shot some oil or WD40 into the line close it back up. Start the coach and tap lightly on the air govenor with a screwdriver handle while airing up. It's stuck in the open position. It may work long enough to get you to a better place, the govenor will need to be replaced. It's a NAPA part and there was a posting yesterday with the part number. Good luck & be safe.

Kirk,

As the guys said, A few "love taps" and a little lube might very well get you out of the jamb

Thanks Rick and John. Hopefully someone has a real part number.

I think i found at least one item for the list of "FC is easier to work on than a PT". If i lay on my back under the transmission i can just touch the govenor. Be damed if i could actually remove it. Looks like the exhaust has to come off to get to the mounting bolts.

Should be a D2 governor. Common $15 dollar part at any truck house.

Thanks John,

Just as a precaution i'm trying to cross reference the my part# to John F's. I can get his but not mine so far. I just want to make sure there is no difference between the Cat and Detroit compressors.

Thanks again!

Is there a way to inject oil into the air system? I have had a number of valves that have gone bad because of moisture leading to corrosion. I have had to replace the valve on my trans retarder and both airbag dump valves. Seems like a little oil might do a world of good.
