Default Found a pit

We were wandering around the ccc campground at Norris Dam in Tennasee and guess what we found, not one but two pits suitable for a Bird. Well, perhaps 70 years ago, but interesting construction.

Nice bit of history. My grandfather was in the CCC corps.

all old bases had pits

then they made the racks which are made out of heavy metal and you can pull 100000lb + on them to inspect trucks and trailers

we got a little pc of 1 in the AMSA shop which they use to wash under the trucks

i seen a hemmet loader on it today!

im sure the metal that it takes to build them far outweigh the cost of a old pit

now we have the fancy jacks in the shop that you team together and pick them up just like the big shops!

This particular CCC camp was one of 23 in the area. They were asssisting with the preperation for the Norris Dam. There was timber to cut, grave yards to move to higher ground, and a ton of other projects to deal with. There is documentation indicating that there was camp designated as the central repair facility running 24/7. We suspect this might have been the camp.

My dad was in the C's in MI. He had it easy because he could type and they made him a clerk. Later went on to fly a desk as a staff sergeant in the Army Air Corp.
