I was surprised they were able to bend the roof sheet metal up around the hole.
I would not have cut the roof bows out,bu what do i know?
Have you guys seen the schoolies they use down here to haul watermelons out of the fields?
They cut huge holes in both sides and they fill them with melons, melons are heavy.

You guys should have seen what my students did to my ‘old’ 1991 schoolie...
We cut and screwed all kinds of customization, without any hesitation...that old bus worked for us for about 15 years, and just last week we “surplused” it — the buyer actually bought a new battery, it fired up, and he drove it away. I tried to explain that the tires were 10 years old, but he drove away...no updates on whether or not he got it home...
I have a LOT of respect for the old BB school busses...that being said, buy a Wanderlodge and start from there is still the “best strategy” if you really want a livable home...But, I will say that I really enjoyed having a bus that I did not have any hesitance about “cutting” into the body—it was pretty fun...

Probably lots of ways to do it better, but live and learn.
Nice to see the Dad out there supporting his kids dream.
Can someone email these kids and tell them what those clearance signs mean under bridges.
Party on bro.

I get the new thread emails from the schoolie forum, and theres some amazing stuff that goes on.
Some of it is good!
You see lots of roof raises and talk of engine repowers, talk of tires and one guy the other day was going to drive from Fairbanks Alaska to the lower 48 in Jan with highway tread tires,10 year old tires to boot.
He didn't want to abuse new tires on the Alcan.
(the Alcan is a darn good road, nothing to worry about).

I will look for a thread where a guy made a flip up roof section with canvas on the sides, like the old VW buses had,way back when.
He did a good job,and it gave me ideas on how to tilt solar panels (if i ever get any).
