I believe it's a passive system - basically acts as a trailing castering tag below a certain speed.

An electronically triggered (via the Allison) pin locks or unlocks the tag. For reverse a solenoid controlled large air cylinder moves a giant lever that pushes tag 2" aft to allow the tag to caster in reverse. It moves it 2" forward to allow it to caster going forward. The solenoid is also controlled by the Drive/Reverse signal from the Allison.

I know, moving the tag forward and backward sounds kind of freaky! But hey, Randy has it on his and he's been to Alaska - so that's good enough for me.

I was going to say that. So complicated. My old man had several trucks with passive tags. One had big springs and the other had hydraulic cylinders with some sort of air charged tank and cables. I can see the counter steering taking an active system to control. I’ve read on the WOG a number of coaches with cantankerous tags that didn’t track right. That’s why I thought many had been welded.

Sure do. And by looking at it, it must be from a 2001 and later since the drive and tag air bags are connected inline - per Randy's comments on this thread over here

Ron’s posts about his engineering masterpieces have been missed . Am certain you got an amazing coach! Congrats on your wise purchase, again
Not sure if he posted on this one, but he created a pneumatics monitoring/control panel to assist with understanding and troubleshooting problems with the air seal on the slide and toilet. He eventually replaced the air toilet and to my knowledge he never had a serious issue with the slide seal. But nevertheless, he wanted to know what was going on - so he built this. Definitely a engineer thru and thru. I think he had stock in pressure gauges and regulators.
