Mike, great job with your analysis! I would offer that the Kyocera panels are super-strong. I live down a ten mile dirt road and pound those panels repeatedly. No sign of fatigue or damage to frame or cells. Also (this may have been mentioned somewhere) that the Midnite controller has a local application which I run on my Win10 laptop/tablet. I have the Midnite Classic 200 on my coach network and can monitor the system anywhere near my coach AND make adjustments to the controller if needed. In addition, Midnite has a website where I can monitor my system anywhere I and the coach have internet access. So my coach could be in Arizona, but I can monitor the system with me in Nevada on any computer with internet access. Convenient...

HI Neal,

I found this very interesting and wanted to know if any update on how its worked out the last few years. I am hoping to add on to mine as well. And did want to ask, is it ever possible to get it to run at least one of the ACs?

Thank you for sharing that wonderful post!

Giovanni

Here is a link to a website of a young couple that has a video on running an RV's AC unit off of batteries and solar. Lots of issues including battery capacity, inverter capacity and soft start of the ac unit.

They have moved on from RVing to sailing, but still rely on solar and lithium batteries.

Here are a couple of others that are running AC off solar/batteries/inverters.

There are others, but their video quality isn't great.

Have you seen this WOG thread? https://www.wanderlodgeownersgroup.c...t=25074&page=3. Your answer to the A/C question starts at post #28, but there’s lots of good info throughout.

My battery bank and solar array are somewhat larger than a Neals. However, I regularly run the Micro-Air equipped front AC solely off batts/solar via a Magnum MS2812 inverter & PT100 Solar Charge Controller. A/C off this combo works especially well when traveling during the day with full sun because alternator assist is available. I choose to not run it without the solar contribution. Without engine assist but with full sun, the combo runs a small negative draw when the compressor is on. I went all Magnum and it makes for a clean setup. Magnum also offers an alacarte internet connection option. Since this thread was started in 2015, even Putz has come around to the advantages of a Magnum setup

That system has performed flawlessly since install. I wouldn't consider trying to run an ac unit on the batteries. That is what the generator is for, though I do run a coffee maker off the batteries.

Glad that you enjoyed the post Giovanni! If I can be of any help, just email or PM me.
