R&R'd the big engine alternator and new belts. Alternator was giving high readings (output sometimes at 15/16 volts at higher RPMs)...this started after the almost coach burn down between Casper and Gillette, WY in August.

Just the CAC will be easy on the 96,take the louvers off and the grandson will have it out in 20 minutes.

John, not sure what "off to the shop" means, but I hope it is not to a DD shop.
Most of the mechanics you find at those shops use your money to learn at $150+ per hour.

I had smoke and low boost and it ended up being the CAC split on both side as it come loose at the top and leaned back against the AC condenser.

I am no expert, But if you are sure no smoke, I would guess you may have other problems.
fuel, sensor or computer bad?

I just have a Cummins 8.3 mechanical engine but when I had the same symptoms it was the disconnected boost sensor line across the top of the engine. The fuel pump anaroid saw no boost so it added no fuel. We had no more than 10 inches all the way from Pensacola to Home in North Carolina. We stayed on level highways no short cuts. We had gotten new exhaust gaskets installed at the Cummins shop at home before we left and they probably stepped on the line while struggling with the manifolds. Quick easy fix when we figured out what the problem was.

We have a manifold pressure gauge and an EGT gauge as part of our Banks Turbo system.

Randy made up a set of plugs a gauge and a chuck with a shut off valve to test Thomas's CAC. Don't know if you could test without removing the CAC but you might be able to test it yourself.

I think Johns grandson could use them to test the CAC in the coach.
Hey,all we did was use PVC pipe caps, drill and tap a hole in one cap,add a valve,a gauge and an air chuck.
We could not see any cracks or anything in Thomas's CAC,but it would not hold any pressure at all,it was leaking all over the place.

Randy, Do you have a source, a phone number or is it a part number? Right now I have a lot going on and it may be difficult to take time off to drive down. I may have to take it to Diesel Injection Services that is all they do is injection & turbo systems. Email or call me if you like. Thanks

we have a place over in Alabama that can recore your CAC,we had them do Thomas's CAC last fall,we shipped it over but went and picked it up what it was done.
Picking it up saved us a few days shipping.
