Default Gainesville, FL area mechanics for an old Bird

Made my desire to own a bird a reality yesterday. It's a 68 FC with a 391 ford.

That reality now includes some serious issues...

Existing engine problems- intake manifold leak. Carb recently rebuilt.

Today climbing a hill into Gainesville, FL power was lost accompanied by knocking seemingly coming from head. Mobile mechanic (dispatched by coach net) said it's likely a bent valve or the carb needs adjustment- at minimum. So needless to say I'm looking for a place nearby to service for this old Bird... thanks everyone.

So,your broke down in Gaiesville on the way to WPB fl?
Just trying to get my head around this.
If its knocking,don't drive it!

391s were known for dropping valves back when they were in use in city delivery trucks,so thats what i would be checking for first.

Are you in a huge hurry?
as in,do you want a commercial shop to get right on this and fix it,or do you have a little time to fix it?

I know a guy that does stuff like that in his back yard, hes a good mechanic, but slow, has good rates, but hes slow,i trust him,but hes slow.
Hes a young man,maybe 50,but if your in a hurry,forget him.

Other than Robert,i have no idea who would touch that bus in that area.
Theres lots of shops in G-ville,but they are geared to new cars, and i don't know of a truck shop left in town.
I would be looking ouside of Gainesville, get out of town, find a shop in Williston,Archer,Hawthorn or something like that.
Did you get towed?

Working on tow now. Coachnet sent out one company who couldn't handle it, so another is on the way. I'm in no hurry but do need to make it back to west palm today once it's landed in a shop. Mobile mechanic from last night said his company (P&S Road Service in Ocala) can handle it and coachnet will tow so I'm going there with it. Wouldn't mind leaving it in his yard but figured I can get other work done at P&S too.

I don't know anymore about this engine or the seller than what's in the advertisement and it may not fit or be configured for your application but you might want to check it out if yours trashed...

That is a great find John. Id be all over that if I thought I might need a 391. Of course you need to check his credentials.

Daves towing can handle the job,but its going to hurt!
I hope the road service guy does not work on it,if he thought it was a carb adjustment...

Yeah got up in Atlanta Fri. Successfully towed to P&S in Ocala with coach nets help (phew). No work done yet by tech just seemed fuel starved and then some knocking got us worried.
Thanks for posting the rebuilt 391, Im going to wait and hear back from P&S and get in touch to source parts as necessary.

Any "Knocking" would have me worried. Now if it was a "ticking", that's different. Was the noise up high in the block or head or down low in the bottom of the engine. The loss of power I really doubt is fuel related with the noise being made by the engine.
