Mine are loud and I wouldn't mind replacing them.
1) Do Fantastic Fans directly replace whatever brand is in my '86?
2) Also, those in my '86 have rain sheilds. Would I be able to keep those with a Fantastic Fan?

Yes to question 1

The newer/larger vent covers are okay. Fantastic Fan recommended not to use the original style vent covers because they did not allow enough air flow potentially causing overheating of the FF motor. Most of the newer ones that are okay will state so.

I agree with John on the covers need to be the higher flowing models similar to this one that I have on both of mine.
