Default Thinlite ballast needed

I have several Thinlites (Model 716-694) that take the 18 inch fluorescent bulbs and one of the ballasts (Model IB-716) is now kaput. If any of you guys who have stuff from the auction have a replacement Thinlite cheap or a ballast (they run about $25 including shipping). I'd be interested. Give me a call at the number below

Thanks

Seems like a good time to convert the Thinlite to LED.

Exactly... I have LED replacements for Thin-lite product designed by Neutek USA. The replacements come in two sizes and two colors. The 12" solution is about as bright as your current lights, the 18" solution should be a bit brighter. They come in Natural and Warm (more yellow).

PM me if you'd like more info or search for Neutek here in the forum.

Default thinlite 18 led

Michael,

Let me know the cost of the 18 inch versions of the bright white LED replacements if you don't mind.

I actually did that kind of replacement about 1-2 years ago in the two Thinlites under the sink and over the dining table (I have 18 overall but those two are used a lot when dry camping) and the LED's only lasted about 30 days. Replacements weren't any better so I went back to the original fluorescent bulbs.

I understand yours and the newer LEDs are supposedly a lot better but I am still a little leery of going through that again without some history of longer life.

So it's a little like "been there, done that" and I'm not sure i want to do it again. I replaced one Thinlite ballast about a year ago and other than that I've had no problems with the fluorescent fixtures except bulbs are a little expensive.

As I recall the LEDs don't need a ballast so if I was going to do it now would be the time to try again. So.... my request for the LED cost as ballasts are about $25.

Yup.. those are common issues with the cheap stuff. They push the LEDs too far, don't properly regulate for a wide range of voltages and spikes, and the color will not match when you re-order due to a lack of consistant parts used and/or quality control. Their main objective is to copy, mass produce, and under bid quality built products.

Neutek products have been tried & tested. They come with lifetime warranties, and the lights this year will match last years. Also, there is only a small difference in LED costs and labor vs ballast replacements but the power draw and heat given off is night and day. These LEDs do not require your ballast to work, I'll send you an installation guide & pricing to your email address.

Yes, Don made a very good instructional video. However, still used "China" product so my bet is within a few years he'll be doing that job again.

Also the Neutek product only uses one strip per bulb, you don't have to stack or solder anything. The ballast does not have to be removed as the Neutek product strips fit where the bulbs go. I did remove my ballasts but only because I removed each fixture and saw no need to leave them. In fact, I should probably put them up for sale!

Default LED's

John McGinnis did a bunch of his in his 89 FC with a strip he got in Quartsite that looked a little newer and maybe a little higher quality with LEDs a little closer together. We'll see how long his last.

Hopefully for awhile.

Sorry Lee.. was actually joking about that.

I think you have ThinLites and I had the old single bulb fixtures so the ballast are not compatible. I ended up throwing them away as I had some that were working, kinda working, and not working. They got mixed up and so I just tossed them. Honestly, not sure why anyone would ever keep them with the LEDs now?

I just sent you an email about the product.
