Default Transmission shifter

I am having to run the shifter up & down to get it to start. I would like to tack it apart to fix this. What do I need to know before I get into it?

You've probably already found these but just in case you haven't, here are a few pages from the 78 FC Chassis Manual about the shifter. They may help if they actually apply to your coach:

Thank you John: The switch looks like the part that needs cleaning or replaced. Has anyone done this?

Yup! I have. Pics to follow if I can find them. It's a ball switch, often used for reverse and neutral circuits in other vehicles. I really don't recall where I got it, but with KC's help we made a new bracket for the replacement. It may just need a little adjustment of the bolt head that activates it.

search google for ball switch neutral safety, it'll get you started (it needs to be normally open)
