Default MSN article about Newell

Just saw this on MSN and read it. Thought I would share it with the rest of you thinking it would be of interest. What amazes me is that all the money that Mickey Mantel made won't even buy one of these today!!

Thanks for sharing that, would be cool to tour the assembly line and see the systems that go into those.

My PO said that people came to talk to him when he pulled in with the Wanderlodge but now that he has a Prevost people don't. He didn't like that part of owning a Prevost.

The pompous comment about Fred and Wilma explains it all.

Friends > money!

You can get a tour of the Newell factory most days. IIRC, they only give them in the morning. There is a nice lake fairly close by (Grand Lake) to take advantage of, but not much else in that area. Miami is a tiny town and got hit fairly hard by a tornado a few years back. Much did not get rebuilt. When Featherlite bought Vogue and then closed the factory, alot of the town left.

Default MSN article about Newell

"Actually, uninvited visitors are a big hassle," says Dwyer. "A Newell is the Bugatti Veyron of motorhomes, and Wilma and Fred in their Winnebago will come a-knockin' for a tour, usually when you're climbing naked into the tub."

Very insensitive and indeed pompous remark. I've met a lot of good people on the road, some driving Winnebagos. Just as proud of their Motorhome as I am mine.

Not saying everyone who owns a brand new 1.5 million dollar Newell is "pompous or aloof", just hope I don't run into 'em. I'll take my chances and break bread with the "Wilma's and Fred's" of the RV'ing community any day.

Tommy you have to stop posting in your southern gentleman, common sense, blue collar way. You are shattering my image and opinion of lawyers!

The article says:

"Rattles and squeaks and groans from the entire household of leather, chrome, granite, and vinyl furnishings are, well, not exactly cacophonous but plenty annoying. Of course, that's what happens when you take your house for a drive".

I test drove a P2000i in Miami Ok a couple of years ago. There was so much road vibration transmitted through the chassis, I leaned over and asked the salesman if the suspension was really aired up! The turning radius, with the steerable tag and was impressive, and I really liked the 10 speed ZF.

Jim,
Thank you for sharing this with us. The insight he gave about some of the owners like Roger and the NASCAR guys was really cool! The Florida lottery and power ball rolled last night so alas, I am not heading to Liberty in Michigan to check out their H3-45 super slide or to Miami, OK to compare a Newell to it!!!!!! hahahahahaha But Maybe Sunday after Saturday nights drawing!!!!!!! Thanks again!

I could've sworn my name was Jonathan.

But, since I drive a Winnebago, I must be Fred. I apologize if I've misled anyone here. It wasn't intentional. I am a bit confused myself.
