Default 1987 ZF Trans model number

Does anyone know the model number of a 1987 ZF trans? My mechanic needs to replace some flex plates. I am away from home and unable to check my blue box.

Thanks

Ron, I hope you are using a ZF certified shop, Precision Transmission comes highly recommended. I & several others have used them with great results.

Baring a Certified ZF Shop, I would hope the wrench has a ZF Rebuild manual.

Default 1987 ZF Trans model number

Thank for the replies. I am having a new engine put in my bus. The shop pulled out the old engine and there 4 flex plates between the engine and the transmission clutch. Two of the four plates were cracked. I called ZF in Chicago to get the new parts. They had a hard time figuring out what my transmission was.
I told them it was a 1987 ZF-Ecomat Series HP 500. They still had a hard time finding it. There is an identification plate on the bell housing, mine was missing. If anyone has access to their plate I would like to get the number for reference. I got the number off the flex plate (4139330365ZF).According to ZF there are no flex plates in the US, so I had to have them air freight them from Germany. Precision transmission was not open, I will be calling them in the morning.

525 miles to Colmar. I'm sure you would be in and out in 8 hours if you did what John did. Took them a bit longer with mine.

I think the same. If it needs a Flex Plate at all. There is only one. It bolts to the crank shaft of the engine and the Torque Converter bolts to it. I would bet it need clutches. But then again, who knows without seeing the problem. I do know if it is clutches you need, Precision had them in stock in Nov of 11. They did'nt use them all on my tranny.

One other thought. It could need the lock up clutches in the Torque Converter. I seam to recall it had four clutches.
