Default Generator Shut down due to Overheating

Hey guys..

Ran the generator today for the first time in a while (it was hot as all get out traveling back from the Gulf Coast to NC.) The generator shut itself down after about 15 min. After quick inspection I noticed it shut itself down due to the coolant temp getting too hot. After it cooled I started it again and realized the down draft squirrel cage radiator fan wasn't running. My question is where would you start to trouble shoot. Are there fuses for these things? I did just have the generator degreased and cleaned, due to the last bone heads changing the oil leaving off the o-ring / washer on the oil plug. So wondering if their degreasing process shorted something etc...

Thoughts?

Thanks

The radiator fins may need to be cleaned too; the squirrel cage fan will need to be removed to remove the radiator.

First I would check the fan/water pump belt, which may have been contaminated during the cleaning process. Consider replacing the belt and adjusting the belt tension. All part of normal maintenance.

Ok. Found the breaker for the fan....it is def tripped....when I reset it, the fan acts like it wants to go but then the breaker quickly trips again. So not sure if the breaker has gone bad or it's actually working and something in the fan is shorted etc causing the breaker / switch to trip as designed. I guess for trouble shooting replacing the breaker first is the cheapest option....I would add when I turn the breaker back on while the generator is running you can hear the gen get the tax of the fan, then the breaker / switch trips again in about 5 seconds...thoughts....?

next i would check the start capacitor on the fan.
Its inside the box the wires go into.
most of the time the cap will be bulged out on the end where the wires plug into.
If its bad.

Rob:
Have you tried to spin the blower to make sure the motor or bearings are not seized?
