Default Generator won't run

15kw power tech, starts well but will only run if you hold the start switch down.replaced the oil and water shut down switches and also jumper end them to test, no difference. I replaced all four relays in the control box. I can manually hold the fuel rack linkage open and it will run but no power to the solenoid after releasing the start switch. Generator end works fine, must be electrical, what am I missing?

Default Gen won't run

Yes fan starts and runs when generator starts. 120 both legs power is good. It had been intermittent before this, run for an hour max then shut off. The last time it shut down I jumped the oil shut down switch and it restarted. On recommendation of power tech I replaced the relays and safety switch, now stumped.

Try Aux Battery switch on dash. Will tie engine bank to coach battery bank. if gen crank powered from engine bank and gen fuel solenoid from coach bank, you will have problem you describe. Tie banks together long enough to charge all batteries.
I installed digital battery voltage indicator in bedroom where I had watched TV too long on inverter one night.

Default Gen won't run

Batteries and power are good. Generator starts right up and will run fine as long as I hold the start button down. The second I release the start button the solenoid on the fuel rack loses power and the engine shuts down. The other "hot" wire to yhe solenoid never energizes and thus the shut down.i just can't trace this wire back and my drawings don't match the relay colors.
The generator ac output is perfect when running and all the gauges read normal.
Randy mentioned voltage regulator, located ? End of generator or in the box on back of gen?

If I run a 12volt jumper to the solenoid to keep it running for the hour I need to get down the road until I can diagnose the problem am I going to hurt anything other than bypassing the safeties?

Reb,

This happened to me last month on my '95 WB40. We couldn't locate the problem after several attempts over a few days. Then I pushed the reset button on the generator and the problem stopped. I don't know if I had a surge problem from the shore power line, but now I disconnect power from the shore line when I start the generator to be safe.

BTW, my generator blower fan just quit and the gen won't run the AC- so Im going to test the blower motor to see what up.

Hope this helps.

Reb,

When I described the problem to Power Technology Southeast (352)365-2777, the mfg of my generator, they said it sounded like an oil pressure sensor or water temperature sensor problem. We never had to go that far.
