Default Finally a local Bird! 1990 SP36 in CT

Hello everyone, long time lurker... second time poster.

I am starting to get relatively serious about purchasing our first Bird. Low and behold I stumbled across this ad just 45 minutes from home.

I would appreciate any info, advice, and or guidance anyone might have.

well it would not be a 330 horse cat but a 300 and the generator would not be a perkins but instead a onan.

I reached out to the seller and he purchased it at an estate sale in preparations for he and his wife to go full time RV. His wife subsequently died of cancer and he is trying to sell it. A quick search of WOG and it would appear that this Bird has been for sale on and off since 2015... Hard to tel as the original CL links are down... I will post pics and ad for posterior.

Default The ad...

Here is the original (most recent ad, in the event it gets taken down...)
Class A diesel (Caterpillar 3208 330 hp) motor home. All the bells and whistles. A true classic.
Diesel 16KW (Perkins) generator, 12:00 X 22.5 tires, Air brakes, air horns, searchlights controlled from inside coach. Excellent tires.
Coach miles 110,281
Engine hrs 2,814
Generator hrs. 1139
Large awning over entrance door, Shades over all windows, CB, two TVs, 2 stereos.
"Full basement", 200 gallon fuel, 80 gallons water, 100 gallon holding tank, hydraulic leveling controlled from inside coach.
propane heat, AC, full galley, microwave, 3 way fridge.
Toilet, shower with tub, vanity, large hanging closet, lots of storage.
Gauges and dials that would make an airline pilot feel at home.
New would be $300 K!
Will need some TLC

If I were you I would settle on the coach that has history. Get a budget and talk to Randy or watch the coaches that are for sale by wog owners. There are no deals. Research and read all the posts regarding a model you like. That’s the advice that is on this site, and in a lot of ways I wish I took, even though I feel I got lucky with our purchase. Realize you either are going to pay someone to work on any bus you buy, or you are going to have to do it yourself and everything takes longer on these busses....I changed 3 light bulbs and got the outdoor light over the weekend in only 4 hours.

But there a lot of fun, and once you get the bug it’s hard to shake!

Good luck!

If it's that close, go and look at it, drive it, if you can. Check tire and battery dates. Ask a bunch of questions, ie. when was it serviced last, including coolant, transmission, etc. Are there any records. Then you will know if it's for you. But go with an open mind.

With all time times I have seen it for sale, I would imagine that somebody here knows this bird.
