Default Blue Bird Inn

A few months back I found a brochure on Ebay for a Blue Bird Inn what's that you say. Well back in 1969 Blue Bird built 12 prototype units for a pilot program for a smaller economical RV on a short standard school bus chassis. Blue Bird sent these units out to the 12 major Blue Bird Dealers (including school bus dealers) as a demo/display units for the dealers to take presale orders. The Blue Bird Inn was to compete with the Winnebago, although it was a good solid platform it never caught on because Winnebago in 69 & 70 were being mass produced and were cheaper so the BB Inn never really caught on. What a shame, it's a cool vehicle. There was once a rumor that the Luce family built them as gifts to the dealers for their dedication to the Blue Bird product lines. John Finn has the PDF of the brochure and will add it later. Mark Donahue has one so maybe he will share some info, & there is a picture online which John can add. I've seen 2 and I always thought someone did a really cool conversion, and they did it was Blue Bird.

It is a large PDF file so depending on your Internet connection, it may take some time to open.

John; thank you for the brochure of the BB INN ,it is a ford like mine . Each one must have been ordered custom as mine had a full roof rack of corrugated steel with railing about 500 pounds that went to the recycling to fix roof leaks. My interior was destroyed so I rebuilt most of it right away, then oven, heater, water heater, ect over the years. I do have the build paper work from BB and letters from dept. of housing CA. to get it registered. I also got some black & white photos BB handed out. I have pictures in my album here on the site.

Hello everbody, I am the owner of the BB Inn that John Finn posted the pictures of. The motorhome was purchased by my grandfather in 1972. He passed it down to my father, and it has been in my possesion for the last 15 years or so. It sits on ford frame and has the original Ford 330 engine, manual transmission, and Onan generator. there have been a few modifications through the years. The front overhead bed was taken out, a new dinet set was placed in it, and the rear was converted into queen bunks. Since I have owned it I have repainted the exterior, rebuilt the engine, transmission, brake system generator and running gear. I replaced the gas fridge with a electric fridge and replaced the water heater and converter. I had the interior formicad and put in wood flooring. Another addition made by my father was a second A.C. unit in the front where a roof vent used to be.
It may not be fast or high tech, but it does the job. I actually thought about selling it prior to rebuilding it but am glad I changed my mind. it definately turns heads on the road, and at a campground it is a great conversation piece. I have had the hardest time finding any info on it at all. I have no idea what it would be worth but it has become priceless to my family. I use it about 6 times a year and hope to keep it on the road for years to come.
