Landing Lights (COMBINED THREADS)

I woke up this morning to find that all four of my landing lights were on. The switches were set to the off position and toggling the switches had no effect. I unplugged each light but the on/off lights at the switches remain on. Any suggestions as to what the problem might be and where to look? Thanks, Jim Barone 1991 WBWL currently in Seguin Texas

Did you by chance notice if the reverse lights and headlights were on also. You have been working in the bedroom where the security light switch resides. If operating properly it turns on all the lights. Worth a look.

You have a micro switch on each set of lights. Air actives the cylinder to swing the lights down and they hit the micro switch. One of the wires to this switch is hot coming from the landing light switch, with the lights in the down position, this hits the micro switch to activate the lights. Could it be, that these micro switches are stuck in the on position? Hope you find your problem. David T

I vote for the panic switch too! Been there done that!! 4 hours of wire tracing on my '83 only to trace it all back the the security/panic switch which my 12 year old thought needed flipping one day.

Anyone know how the ball comes apart? Is it threaded and screwed together,or press fit? I've tried tapping on a knife and chisel at the parting line but don't want to damage things. Any ideas?

Burt this topic has come up before so don't dispare. Someone with first hand experience will pop in soon. From what I remember others say, these lights are press fit and soaking them overnight with PB or similar product seemed the common first step.

The lights are plastic. From behind, or after removing from the coach, there are 4 bolts that hold a ring, that holds the ball in position. Remove these bolts. The ball will then be free. It is constructed of 2 plastic halves, held together by a galvanized metal ring, inside the ball. You must simply overcome the friction of this ring to seperate the two halves. Mine were badly corroded, and difficult to seperate. Once the bulbs are replaced, the assembly is held together by the outer ring and bolts. Hope this helps.

The corrosion turns to a white power,
soak and tap lightly with a rubber mallet,
use something softer to pry apart, as a plastic putty knife.
These marine lights & housings are expensive.
