Default Radiator Replacement

Hi, We just took the radiator out of our 1985 pt40 and would like to know where the best place would be to get a new one without breaking the bank. I think that getting it from bluebird was going to be kinda expensive.?? Thanks, Matt

Hi Jeff,

Just as a data point I had mine recored in Calif last week. It was $2000 for the recore, due to the high cost of copper they said...
R & R was about 6 hrs IIRC.

YMMV, Joe

Matt,

Give Ken's Bus Repair in Lexington a call at 803-957-1022 (SHOP #1) ask for Ken Lester, tell him I suggested that you give him a call. They do all of the maintenance on my 'Bird that I can't do at home and they maintain two different tour bus companies in the Columbia area, plus more in the area. Ask Ken where he gets his radiator work done at, I think that would be the best bet for a bus radiator. Maybe you and your Dad can modify a Peterbuilt radiator to fit

I hope that you all had a good time in the Florida Keys

Thanks for the replies. I'll have to give Ken a call later today, and maybe we can find what we're looking for. Yessiree we had a good time in the keys, we met a fellow down there with an 86 bluebird i think, anyway his was 38 foot and had a paintjob almost IDENTICAL to ours. It was real neat(<:

I had ours done when we bought the coach. the bill was 1200 and I pulled it and replaced it. we had some trouble with the top tank not being set far enough down on the core and had to have it repaired twice. I think if I could do it again i would have spent the $3500 from BB and been done with it for another 25 years.

We recieved a replacement radiator core for my Bird. Upon opening the box I saw they sent a 5 flue core. My old core is 6 flue staggared. Will the 5 flue keep the engine cool? Thanks, Jeff

Has anyone had a recore done on an 87-89 FC, if so where & how much? We had ours pulled & pressure tested good so they said, in Los Cruces, wasn't leaking then, but is now. Imagine that!

John,

These are the folks who did my CAC, they also do radiators. I can't say enough good about these folks and their work.
