Caterpillar 3208 Solutions This sub-forum is hosted by Mike Hohnstein who has been at this kind of thing for 50+ years now, guess I'm addicted. The saga has been all about progressively larger shop space since then. Honestly, never wanted to get into the CAT 3208's that were originally considered to be a throwaway engine but that's all that works in a FC in my world. Same thing with my Ford toter, that came with a NA, too much effort to hang in a 6, so been at it with the CAT V-8 for 20 years now. In reality you can get excellent life out of a CAT 3208 if it's built correctly. Post your questions about the CAT 3208 engines here and Mike will try to help you out.

Default Injection pump issues

My Fc35rb has been a wonderful thing for the past year of ownership. We mainly used it as a race support vehicle for our old Porsche 944. The bird gets a ton of attention in the paddock and has more than one fellow racer looking and dreaming of a Bird. One problem I have had.... ours will shut down while underway....not my wife's favorite part of the day. After three times, I consulted with Mike Hohnstein, had the pump pulled while I was on a business trip, and sent to Mike.
The good news is the cam and lobes and followers are usable, lift pump is OK, however all the individual pumps are worn. We need 8, and the large cam shaft bushing in the pump housing is toast, other than that all seals and gaskets were tested on a running engine and brought up to operation temperature.
I really feel good about Mike doing this work=peace of mind.
Also at Mike's suggestion, we will add an auxiliary pump. This should keep fuel out of the valley, and power to the drive wheels.
We will be heading on a test journey to Asheville NC for my niece's wedding soon...looking forward to no drama (knock on wood). I am going to purchase roadside insurance though for added peace.
