Default Ernie does Pretty Penny (Flooring Replacement)

Ernie Ekberg arrived Tuesday and started demolition early Wednesday. By Friday, all carpet, staples and tile was gone. Captains chairs and one sofa had to be removed (all 3 being replaced).

He is now carefully going over the subfloor to find any imperfections and uneveness. It is interesting that BB had a 4" X 8" piece of the plywood floor cut out under the aisle carpet. Because it stood taller that the other floor, Ernie removed it to see why it was there. It was an access point to the top of the fresh water tank. It must have been a one time intallation need that got covered with carpet.

We are installing Mirage Brazilian Cherry engineered flooring from the front dash through galley and dining and down the side aisle. New carpet in the MBR and around the captains chairs. The side bath tile will remain original as it is in great shape.

Behind the removed sofa, the run for wires and cables was not finished. I bought some wood stock and Ernie will finish it and cover with the new carpet since the replacement for the sofa will be a recliner and ottoman.

After a little more prep work, bedroom carpeting will start as well as carpeting the boxes. steering column and miscellaneous places. Wood should arrive in a day or two just in time to get started.

If I figure out how to load pictures, you will see some in a follow up.

For a full slideshow of the remodel of my flooring, go to:

http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/...elingandrepair

and look under photos for Tom McCarthy's WLWB.

When I can get out there this weekend, I will take finish pictures and post here (at least as far as we can go until the new furniture arrives).

I checked out the slideshow Tommy; place looks awesome. Great choice of materials. Beautiful work Ernie! Before long you'll have the entire BB community wearing Mirage hardwood. (NFI)

Ernie, how does the engineered wood hold up in the bathroom area? Would you recommend tile in these areas or stay with the hardwoods.

Alan, sorry, but my phone won't show the entire thread.
To answer your question: yes, I have used quality engineered wood in many wet areas without issues.
