Yes the power actually comes through the ribbon cable on mine. They took two sets of 4 wires and paired them up so you have power in and out through the dash switch on 8 of the wires in the 20 (iirc) wire ribbon cable.

I don't know if we have the same PMMI box or not, FYI.

In Bobbie Martin's SP36 I had an inop musical horn. I fixated on the ribbon cable but the 6 pin connector had fallen out which carried power to the black box. It worked thereafter, but like Kiki, the soft "PLAY" button does nothing, it just plays when power is turned on. I actually prefer this. I suspect it has a replacement box that is from the digital readout horn era and not the little manual cogwheel selector which changed in 1990. Kiki's is probably the same.

Does the M380 have the ultimate horn?

The older 80's coaches had a different horn setup - they had one little silver box and an external amplifier. The single black box was a much cleaner setup, but all does the same thing. My '88 has the manual wheel to select the tune of your choice, sure to annoy all your neighbours while testing.

M380 basically has a 1990s horn with different controls.

In your notes, do you have any pinout info on that ribbon cable? Prepping myself for repairs as mine went from good, to quiet, to dead, and assuming amplifier related. It may be enhanced by some sort of embedded computing device if not fixed simply.

I'm guessing that the wheels encode 0-F on 4 pins, 0-3 on 2 pins, then a common maybe shared between each, maybe not... for 7 or 8 pins. On/Off will be two pins each side (based on what you noted above), so I'm up to about 12 pins used. Play is probably another 2 pins each direction, so 16 of 20 pins accounted for. Really wouldn't mind a picture of a PMMI horn such as that on my 86 PT, if anyone's got one. (I think one was floating around at WOG, didn't think to get a picture of it).

Google revealed this thread with pictures: https://www.wanderlodgeownersgroup.c...ad.php?t=22703

Funny you mentioned that - I have 3 horns on the bench now to get fixed, but I need to rig up a cable so I can test these out more easilly. I'll get my own out and I'll make a schematic for the cable sometime this week.

I have a sneaking suspicion that the amps die before the PMMI box, for those that are separate at least. Those are what I have now, they are separate boxes. I understand the later ones have the amp built in, but I haven't seen one yet. The springs in the speaker connections on the amps get funky over time, too, so if you've been losing volume I would jiggle those around and see if it changes.
