Default Hydraulic Fan Motor Replacement

So I worked a bit today on getting the hydraulic fan motor off my PT. It has been leaking oil for a while now. So I decided I needed to get it replaced.
I am going to also get the cooling system in order. The radiator will be sent out to get re-cored and I will be replacing all the hoses etc. Also going to try to clean up the ceiling of the engine bay and insulate it.

Nice and dirty! I see you have the same remnants of some kind of "insulation" under there as I did. I don't think the original insulation did much in there, but I think there's 2" of some foam stuff above the sheet metal in there that does most of the actual insulating. I still haven't put any new insulation on.

Yea it’s a mess on the ceiling. My buddies has a/c fiber board up there, I am thinking about doing the same.

Default Heat shield removal

So today I worked on getting the heat shield removed from the engine compartment. I have some really nice insulation that I purchased that will be going in the engine compartment. I have not decided if I want to paint the heat shield panels a silver color to help lighten up the engine compartment. Also I am thinking I will add some more lights as well. My radiator is getting re-cored and expect it back soon. I am also waiting on my hydraulic hoses to show up as well as all the new coolant hoses.

Every body has a way to get the rest of the sticky and crumbs off,but i have a way that works pretty good.
Home depot sells a scraper on a shovel handle.
Its heavy duty,about 4'' wide.
I use it for the big stuff.
On the genny bay you can scrape almost all of the foam out while sitting in a chair.
If the genny is out!


Once i scrape the big stuff i pressure wash everything else.
I see no reason to remove all of the glue,new glue sticks to the old glue just fine.

Sounds like a good idea... I think I already have the scraper you are talking about, I will have to look in my shed for it. Yea I was thinking it would be a real pain to try to remove all that glue. I think the old glue will give it some extra tooth to hold the new glue, plus the washers will help too....

Yea I got enough insulation to do the generator bay too... luckily someone else already removed all the old insulation in there, so all I have to do is install the new insulation...

I am thinking I need to clean up the engine and give it a couple licks of silver paint to get it back looking good again.. Depends on how much time I end up with before pine mountain.

I want to check the valve clearances and set the injectors while I have access to the driver side cover.

diesel fuel in a coffee can and a good $20. 3 inch paint brush works great to clean up the grease . the thin oil (diesel oil) re-wets the oil that became sludge then dried out as grime. reverses the process making it dirty oil again that can be blotted then washed off with dawn dish soap. I use diesel on soot and salt dust
. a toilet brush then helps to expose more dries grime for a reapplication with the paint bush full of diesel recently used floor wax remover $10,00 a gallon full strength to remove soot stains on the rubber mats in my Higer bus. I am not sure if maybe the transit company waxed the mats but wow. I need to try floor wax remover on other issues to see how it works out.

I want to make sure my cooling system is working good again before i would think about bigger injectors... I was hoping to relocate the hydraulic reservoir to make more room on the driver side of the engine to facilitate getting to that side of the engine in the future, but unfortunately just do not have the time right now to make the changes....
